Words of Inspiration and Motivation

Marian Wright Edelman:
"If we don't stand for children, then we don't stand for much."
"You're not obligated to win. You're obligated to keep trying to do the best you can do everyday."

Jean-Marc Gaspard Itard:
"If we consider human intelligence at the period of earliest childhood man does not yet appear to rise about the level of the other animals."

The Passion for Early Childhood
Louise Derman-Sparks:
" I had a built in passion that it was important to make a real contribution to the world and to fix all the injustices that existed in the world. And I wanted to do that through teaching."

Renatta M. Cooper:
" What keeps me engaged is we're not there yet with any of them [ policies and rights for mothers and children]. We've got a long way to go with all of them and I think that until we achieve some of these goals I'll keep doing it."

  1. I really liked the last quote by Renatta M. Cooper. She is so right that we still need to improve the rights and policies for mothers and children.

  2. It is unfortunate that laws only allow 6 weeks for maternity/paternity leave. The first months are bonding for mother and baby/babies. We have to do better as a nation where family matters are concerned.

  3. I love that quote that states "if we don't stand for children, we don't stand for much." We always hear that chldren are the future, but when I'm in the classroom in the midst of the noise and chaos, the paperwork and high expectations, I sometimes forget how valuable and precious they are. I can forget what my purpose really is. This quote inspires me to continue to care for young children, teach them and be their advocate.

  5. I thought you chose really great quotes. I especially like the very first one about doing your best. My mother always told me to stand for something or you will fall for anything. Children are a great "something" to stand for.

  6. Kali,
Like Carole and Chantrell, I really liked the first quote "If we don't stand for children, then we don't stand for much." This quote really resonates with what we are trying to accomplish as professionals in the early childhood field.

  7. I really like the quote about having a "built-in passion" I truly feel that the passion I have for teaching and working with young children is something I've had for as long as I can remember.
