What Is Communication?

As demonstrated in this cartoon, effective communication is essential to positive collaborative efforts.  When I think about a competent communicator, I think about my favorite author/poet/activist, Sonja Sanchez.  I have had the opportunity to attend lectures where she was the guest speaker. There was never a moment in her speeches where I wasn't on the edge of my seat. She is such a dynamic writer and speaker and I often model my poetry recitation after her because she exemplifies strength, courage, and wisdom.

  1. That cartoon script really does demonstrate how important effective communication is. When you take the time to communicate with others so much more can be accomplished on the job and in life.

  2. Kali, your cartoon photo is really getting the point across. Communication is very important for the betterment in our everyday life. We are communicating to and with others. Whether it's the speech you deliver in the doctor's office, the level of attention you give your spouse when they are talking to you, or the look you give the patient, it all means something.

  3. Kali,
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. What a great illustration of effective communication. This cartoon was of particular interest to me because I used to be an operating room nurse. Timing and coordination when moving a patient is essential to their safety as well as those lifting.

  4. Thank you ladies!

I love finding cartoons and images that tell stories with simple phrases or no words at all.

  5. Kali, Love your cartoon. It really gets the point across. Reminded me of when I was getting my C-section. Thank God for good communicators. I have never heard of Sonja Sanchez. Thanks for exposing me to a Latina poet. Will look her up.
